Now we can add the name of Sherry Leak to the growing list of eBay bans.<\/p>\n

Sherry often works under the name raccoon-eyes. She uses the ebay name of coonic_studios<\/a> and she is an official Marvel artist, have had her work inserted in the Marvel Masterpieces 3 trading card set.<\/p>\n

She also worked on commissions and sold her original 1\/1 artwork on eBay, now however she has been removed and is no longer a registered user.<\/p>\n

It has been brought to my attention that I was not clear about the ebay removals so now I want to make this very clear: The artists in question were suspended from ebay for 7 days \u00a0not banned for life, in case I was not understood before.\u00a0 The suspensions are temporary at this stage.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n<\/strong> Sherry Leak has contacted me and I have quoted her extensively in the next few paragraphs but before you read her comments it’s important to get a little background. Sherry is a professional artist who has worked on numerous card sets (listed below). Importantly Sherry is not a chancer, she is a skilled artist and she is a graduate of the Joe Kubert School of Art. She makes her living through her drawing and takes it very seriously, you can see more of her work by clicking the Gambit sketch card. When she contacted me today I felt it worth updating the article to let her add some of her own words to this mess.This is what she has had to say:<\/p>\n

“I have worked on Marvel Masterpieces Series III Sketch cards. I’ve also done work for the Archie Comics March of Dimes Sketch Cards, and Legends and Lore Sketch Card Set by sadlittles.com I’m currently working on Dean Yeagle’s Mandy Sketch Cards and within the next month I will be work on 2 new card sets. One is called Zombie’s vs Cheerleaders and the other card set is based off of Moonstone characters such as the Phantom. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

My only income is freelancing at the moment. So I draw alot and I work really hard. I have never been suspended from ebay, it was a surprise to me. I know of several dozen artist on ebay who sell original art. So why am I penalized and not them? Original art work of established characters is sold online and at conventions all the time. I did not claim to own the characters and I specifically stated this in all my auctions. I made sure to mention in the auctions that these were just fan art drawings, like a sketch you would typically get at a convention. So all in all I’m not particularly pleased to hear about the disney\/marvel merge.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Its already difficult enough to be a artist as it is now it seems that it will be even harder now. I want to be optimistic but we’ll have to see how things play out. I will be going to baltimore comic con next month and I will have a table there, I wonder if they are going to have disney scouts there and start telling artist to take down there marvel art work? If people are already getting booted off of ebay this soon what will happen a couple of days, weeks, or months from now? Will getting a commission or a sketch card of established characters have to become a underground thing since disney is cracking down so hard?”<\/em>

\nYou know I think she just summed up everyone\u2019s fear on this issue, what will happen and why are some being picked on while others are left to carry on?<\/p>\n

So some questions about all this:<\/p>\n

What about, as she mentions, convention sketches? Can comic artists now sketch Disney characters for fans?<\/p>\n

It seems not at this point, if they are ever intend for re-sale. It may even be a problem for the artists to display or charge for these drawings.<\/p>\n

How far is Disney willing to go?<\/p>\n

Fairly far for those with any sort of memory for things like Howaerd the Duck, I guess I am pleased the Steve Gurber did not make it to see this, he thought Marvel and Disney were crooks. He may well have been right. That leads us back to Joe Quesada who said just yesterday that nothing was changing. I guess he was wrong..<\/p>\n

Lets remember this is the same Joe who insisted on calling DC AOL Comics, and alluding to there impotence as a company with a comparison to a Porn Star<\/a> who cant get it up.<\/p>\n

Well he is now owned by Disney I doubt he will be able to get away with half as much trash talking as an employee of Disney Comics, they frown on that sort of thing…. You see it works a little like this:<\/p>\n

Forced labour of children in china for slave wages to make shitty mouse toys for western children = good<\/p>\n

Swearing or making generally rude comments = Bad\u2026<\/p>\n

Welcome to Disney please bend over.<\/p>\n

They are going to change the company and from this first action it\u2019s not looking like it\u2019s for the better.<\/p>\n

If you have any art for sale that is not \u201cofficial\u201d or has been sketched not only can it be removed but your eBay account can and will be suspended if it is, I understand from eBay that it is irrelevant to them if you have 1 out of 1000\u2019s of items, they will pull them all. eBay fees become payable immediately. While no reports of comic sketch covers have hit the inbox yet I am sure it is only a matter of time unless Disney rethink this stance.<\/p>\n

TrevMurphy and Veronica O\u2019Connell are two well know Irish Sketch card artists have also been shut down by Disney\/Marvel and were the first we reported on.<\/p>\n

There eBay account wolfhound-art is no longer active, and has been shut by eBay for breach of Marvel copyright, instigated it is believed by the new Disney ownership.<\/p>\n

They had 100% rating with 425 positive feedback for all there transactions the last of which was left just yesterday.<\/p>\n

Today they are not welcome. \u00a0You can see the listings that have been removed can be found hear<\/a> You will have to log in to see them as they are classed as “completed” \u00a0listings.<\/p>\n

They have been trading for a year and a half now on eBay and have a lot of Marvel traffic for the last four months, so this is not something new. There suspension is according to eBay for \u201cat least\u201d a week, possibly longer. While they have not worked on any official marvel sets they have done a fair amount of sketch work for other companies.<\/p>\n

This is happening now and could affect anyone selling original or commissioned art featuring Marvel characters, so you can bet more will come to the surface in the next few days. There is no doubt this action has been taken because of a complaint from the copyright holders, simply put had it not been the listings would all still be active.<\/p>\n

eBay takes no action if \u201cnormal\u201d people complain, as demonstrated by the Brian Kong problem last week.<\/p>\n

The email Veronica received read:<\/p>\n

<\/strong>The rights owner or an agent authorized to act on behalf of the rights owner, Marvel Entertainment, Inc., notified eBay that this listing violates intellectual property rights. When eBay receives a report of this type of violation, we remove the listing to comply with the law<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

However these cards have been available for many many years and in fact a lot of them still are, expect more to disappear shortly. This looks like the first change of many changes to hit Marvel.
